Is there a big advantage to mineral revitalization water purification systems? Are they worth the money? We have the answers. Minerals are nothing new. They are naturally occurring substances. They are in the ground, the very earth, itself, so they are also present in anything that grows from or passes through the soil. They are also found in anything that eats plant foods and anything that lives in the water. When it comes to human health, there are recommended daily allowances for all of the essential trace minerals. Some companies suggest that the mineral water benefits are similar to what you would get from taking a vitamin supplement; the prevention of nutritional deficiencies. It is true that studies have shown that drinking distilled, which is de-mineralized, water on a regular basis leads to digestive problems and eventually can cause mineral deficiencies, if no other source of the nutrients are available. That is why companies have introduced mineral revitalization water purification systems for home use. That is also why so many people believe that there are a large number of mineral water benefits. The problem; the studies were conducted to advise consumers and health care professionals about what is the healthiest liquid to consume. Researchers did not compare mineral water benefits to those of regular tap water or water from any other source. They only compared people who drank distilled, as opposed to naturally occurring. The introduction of the mineral revitalization water purification systems was supposed to counter the disadvantages of reverse osmosis, distillation and other purification methods that remove naturally occurring minerals. It is basically, a waste of money, so is buying bottled mineral water. There is no scientific evidence to support the claim that there are mineral water benefits that are not found in the purified, mineral balanced option. The better filtration systems for home use provide the latter. There are some anecdotal studies that seem to suggest that there are some mineral water benefits. In areas where it is naturally occurring, it is said that people live longer and are healthier. While it is true that de-mineralized water is unnatural and probably not good for you. There is no indication that taking out what is naturally present and then “revitalizing” the H2O by adding them back is a good option. That’s why we say that mineral revitalization water purification systems are a waste of money. They simply take out what was already there and then add it back in. The balance may be different, but you can do the same thing with the newer systems that use ion exchange and for a small percentage of the cost. We have to admit that there is a school of thought that says mineral water benefits are numerous. So, the subject is debatable. But, mineral revitalization water purification systems only have an advantage over the old reverse osmosis units. We think that it would be difficult for anyone to debate that fact.

The Elderly And Their Nutrition
By Expert Author: Jack Sands
Healthy eating and nutrition for the elderly is greatly impacted by several factors, one of them being a change in body composition. During the later years in life, the body will lose bone and muscle and gain fat because the hormones aren't very active anymore. There are many factors which hinder an elderly person's health. The information below will help you to lead a healthy life - no matter how old you may be. Water Water in the body decreases with age, so many older folks will become dehydrated very easily. Sometimes they won't feel thirsty, while other times it's too much work to pour a glass a water. With this in mind, it's recommended that they drink at least 1 ounce of water for every 2.2 pounds of weight. Protein At this stage in life, protein is very important. Protein is needed to support a healthy immune system and prevent the wasting of muscle. Since energy needs are less, older folks should eat high quality protein such as eggs, lean meats, poulty, and fish. Carbs and fiber Carbohydrates are the main source of energy for the entire body. You can find carbs in bread, cereals, pasta, and other grain products. A diet that's high in fiber and water will help to prevent constipation as well. Fat Fat intake for the elderly should be limited, not eliminated. You can limit fat by choosing lean meats, low fat dairy products, and food preperation methods that don't include frying. Iron For the elderly, iron deficiency can be seen with those who aren't eating much. Good sources for iron include lean red meats or breakfast cereals. Zinc Zinc intake is normally with the elderly, and to make matters worse, it's not absorbed very well either. Meat, poultry, and fish should be a part of your diet to help you meet the requirements for zinc. Calcium Calcium is one ingredient that most elderly folks simply aren't getting enough of. Most believe that milk upsets their stomach, and therefore they will avoid it. They should be getting around 1,500 mg of calcium a day, and nonfat powdered milk can be used in recipes as a substitute for milk. Other foods such as yogurt, low fat cheese, and broccoli can also help you meet the requirements for calcium. Vitamin B12 In order to absorb the benefits of B12, the intrinsic facotr must be produced by the stomach. Most elderly people suffer from a deficiency in B12 because they have a condition known as atrophic gastritis. This condition causes inflammation of the stomach, bacterial overgrowth, and the intrinsic factor. Without the intrinsic factor, this vitamin can be absorbed. Each one of the above nutrients are needed to keep an aged body in good health. Elderly individuals should try to stay active and strive for a well balanced diet. Even though the aged body isn't the same as it used to be, proper care and the right nutrients can help the elderly enjoy a healthy and long life.

Diet for Disease Prevention and Senior Health Care
By Expert Author: Stephanie Rice
Maintaining a healthy diet throughout life can do more than just keep you slim and fit. Healthy eating is important to senior health care and can sometimes prevent diseases such as heart disease and cancer, as well as provide relief for diseases such as osteoporosis. Unfortunately, the importance of eating well is often pushed aside by our busy day to day lives. We continue to jeopardize our future health and get caught up in the cycle of fast food, large portions and sodium laden meals. A healthy diet doesn’t have to be daunting on our schedules, or mean giving up all the food we love. A simple eating plan can actually make meals and snacks more efficient for both our time and our bodies. While a healthy diet is important for an individual of any age, it is especially important for seniors and senior health care. Creating a healthy lifestyle while we are younger, and maintaining it as we grow older, can prevent many senior health care issues, and keep disease at bay. While many seniors rely on specialized senior services for their senior health care needs, it’s important to do all we can beforehand to maintain our health and practice preventative care. Below is a list of diseases and the foods that help to prevent or manage disease: Osteoporosis Our bones continue to grow until we reach our maximum bone density somewhere in our late twenties or early thirties. Slowly as we age our bones become less dense which can eventually lead to Osteoporosis. Building up our bone density while we are young is a sure prevention method, but there are a variety of foods that can help prevent or provide relief from the disease as well. These are: • Foods rich in Vitamin D such as dairy products, oily fish, and liver are vital for bone production. Exposure to sunlight also produces Vitamin D. Calcium, in low fat milk and other dairy products, is equally important for healthy bones. • Aside from nutrition, exercising regularly with low- or high-impact cardiovascular activities can force bones to strengthen. Many senior citizen communities and activity centers offer physical activity and exercise programs ideal for seniors. Heart Disease Coronary heart disease is a senior health care issue that can also be prevented through healthy lifestyle choices. Heredity, and poor diet are risk factors for heart disease, and a variety of basic nutrition solutions can prevent or help individuals manage the disease. These include: • Removing saturated fats from your diet. Replace them with unsaturated fats such as skimmed milk, low fat cheese, and lean meat. • Eat fruits and vegetables, and limit your total fat intake. • Eat fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids such as mackerel or salmon, and grill any meat to remove the fat. • Adding soy to your diet will reduce cholesterol, and also lower the risk of heart disease. • Stay away from Trans fats found in fried foods and some baked goods. Cancer Research has shown that eating a healthy diet and practicing healthy lifestyle habits can prevent the onset of cancer. Risk factors for cancer include smoking, overweight, and excessive drinking. Though quitting smoking and drinking in moderation will help in the prevention of certain cancers, eating vitamin rich foods and avoiding others to maintain a healthy weight can also play a major role in senior health. • Fruits and vegetables are vital to Cancer prevention and weight control. Eat a large variety every day. • Avoid large amounts of red meat and processed meats. • Wholegrain breads and other sources of fiber such as almonds are essential for weight control. • Eat fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids as well as beans and legumes that are full of fiber, protein, complex carbohydrates and important minerals. Eating well and maintaining physical activities don’t guarantee the prevention of disease, but contributes toward your physical and mental well-being. A variety of senior citizen services are available, such as senior nutritionists that can offer advice on healthy eating and exercise to improve or maintain senior health. Other healthy foods to build into your healthy lifestyle include: • Whole Grains • Almonds • Beans and other legumes • Avocados • Olive oil • Dark Chocolate • Eggs

6-Day process Diets
By Expert Author: Garry Kimmel
A 6-day process diet is a diet program that allows you to diet for 6 days then take a day off. You follow the diet plan for six days. You watch what you eat, exercise and take their diet pills that you get when you order the plan. Then you get a free day to do whatever you want and eat whatever you want. How is this possible? Surely by cheating that one day you are messing up everything you have done for the first 6 days. One reason is that if you constantly follow the plan and have no break you are less likely to stick to the program. By having a day off you can satisfy all your cravings and start back with the program when your free day is over. You will be willing to keep going when you know that when you are getting tired of the program you have a cheat day coming up. Many people choose to have their day off be Saturday because that is the one day of the week when people tend to want to go out or entertain friends and family. By having the entertaining day as their free day they won’t feel limited to eating the right food they can relax and have fun with everyone else. Another reason for the 6-day process diet plan that allows you to have the day off it will help you loose weight faster. Even dieters need to cheat a little. By having a cheat day you will see a boost in your metabolism from the day off and that boost will go through the next six days and then it is time for another day off. Diets like the crevax diet that allow you to have a day off from your diet when you can let your hair down and relax is a new concept. All the other diet plans I have ever heard of require you to follow their diet plan until you achieve your goal. Then the problem is that when you achieve your goal and you go off the diet you gain the weight most of the time. When you are able to take a day off of the diet for you so that you can do whatever you want you get back on track and you are able to accomplish your goal and are able to keep the weight off. The 6 day process diet teaches you the importance of eating right for six days. This diet plan is not just a simple fly by night diet. It is for people that are serious about loosing weight. If that is you chances are you will have better success going on a 6-day process diet than you would have if you went on a diet that was strict about you staying on their diet and not having any time that you could satisfy your cravings. The 6-day process diet plan is truly a unique plan that should be tried by anyone needing to loose weight.

You Can Eat Healthy While Eating Out
By Expert Author: Jan Richards
If you go out to a restaurant to eat, you probably watch your calories very closely. To assist you with your calorie watching when dining out, these tips will help you make the most of it. - Always order salad dressings or sauces on the side, as this way you have control over how much you add to your meal. - When you order grilled fish or vegetables, you should ask that the food be grilled without butter or oil, or prepared with very little or either or. - Anytime you order pasta dishes, be on the lookout for tomato based sauces instead of the cream based sauces. Tomato based sauces are much lower in fat and calories, and tomato sauce can even be counted as a vegetable! - You should always try to drink water, diet soda, or tea instead of soda or beverages that contain alcohol. - If you order dessert, share with a friend. Half of the dessert will equal half of the calories. - When you choose a soup, remember that cream based soups are higher in fat and calories than other soups. A soup can be a great appetizer, as most are low in calories and you fill you up pretty fast. - When ordering a baked potato, ask for salsa instead of sour cream, butter, cheese, or even bacon. Salsa is very low in calories and provides a healthy alternative with plenty of flavor and spice. - When you are full, stop eating. Listen to your body and what it tells you. - If you get full, take half of your meal home. The second portion of your meal can serve as a second meal later. This way, you get two meals for the price of one. - If you're looking to eat less, order two appetizers or an appetizer and a salad as your meal. - If you get a choice of side dishes, get a baked potato or steamed vegetables instead of french fries. - Always look for food on the menu that's baked, grilled, broiled, poached, or steamed. These types of cooking use less fat in the cooking process and are usually much lower in calories. - Plain bread or rolls are low in both fat and calories. When you add the butter and oil, you increase the fat and calorie intake. - As key ingredients to your meal, choose dishes with fruits and vegetables. Both fruits and vegetables are great sources of dietary fiber as well as many vitamins and minerals. - Choose foods made with whole grains, such as whole wheat bread and dishes made with brown rice. - If you crave dessert, look for somthing with low fat, such as berries or fruit. - Always remember not to deprive yourself of the foods you truly love. All types of foods can fit into a well balanced diet.

Natural Treatments for Oily Skin
By Expert Author: Sandrine Magrin
Oily skin looks shiny and is much more prone to outbreaks of spots, even though it feels relaxed and supple. This is because of a heightened production of sebum (oil) by the sebaceous (oil producing) glands - too much sebum can lead to inflammation and pimples, if the duct gets blocked. Sebaceous glands are unevenly distributed, being more concentrated around the scalp, on the forehead, along the nose and on the chin, and scarcer on the cheeks and neck, and around the eyes. As a result, the oily skin condition tends to be observed only in patches. Oily skin can't completely be prevented from occurring, nor would you want to; a light sheen of oil is the essence of that youthful glow. However, EXCESSIVE oil on your skin may exacerbate the amount of clogged pores, which leads to a variety of skin problems such as acne. The amount of oil that an individual produces is determined by genetics. It is influenced by hormones and what is called an "end organ response". Because the oil gland is directly influenced by hormones, it is known as an end organ. Many people have the same level of hormones, but make different amount of oil because their oil glands respond differently. During adolescence, a surge in the level of sex hormones, known as androgens, creates a problem of acne skin where previously there was none. This happens because sebaceous glands produce more sebum, enlarged and stimulated by androgens. Acne is not directly produced by this stimulation, but the extra sebum for which they're responsible produces more fatty acids when a comedo plug closes off a pore opening. The additional fatty acids increase the amount of inflammation, and more severe acne occurs. Sebum is very important to the maintenance of the skin, despite all the trouble that causes. When the system is working properly, sebum performs the important job of helping to lubricate your skin. Also, dead skin cells shedding from your hair follicle walls are carried away with sebum. For someone having oily skin, is really important to take measures to unclog pores and prevent them from forming acne lesions. Oily Skin Care Tips - Be sure to tone and cleanse twice daily to control oil and breakouts. - Normal moisturizers may be too heavy, so stay away from them if your skin is extremely oily. - Exfoliate and apply oil-absorbing mask treatments once a week to eliminate oil trapped within the sebaceous duct. - Do not use any oil-based cosmetics, which will only aggravate oily skin and create further blemishes. Prefer water-based, non-comedogenic cosmetics.
